Steve Burton, who played Chris Fuller, went on to star in the science fiction miniseries Taken (2002), which revolved around a young girl whose great-grandfather was an alien. The girl has some powers similar to Evie's, such as the ability to stop time.
Donna Garland: Dreams come from one of two things. Either fears or... something else.
Evie Ethel Garland: Sex.
Donna Garland: Yes. I'm assuming yours are about fears, or we'll both be having nightmares.
Donna Garland: Oh, Charles, I loved you in "The Ghost & Mrs. Muir"!
Charles Nelson Reilly: So did I!

Christina Nigra was the original choice for the role of "Evie" on Out of This World (1987), but the producers changed their minds at the last minute and gave that part to Maureen Flannigan. The role of "Lindsay" was created especially for Nigra, at the eleventh hour, as a compensation.
The old standard tune, "Swinging on a Star", was the series' theme song.
During the second season, actress Donna Pescow became pregnant. Since it could not be explained how her character became pregnant while her husband was away fighting a war, Pescow was filmed using only close-up shots or position so that something was hiding her pregnancy.
The theme song, "Swinging on a Star", is an adapted version of Bing Crosby's number one hit of the same name in the summer of 1944. The original lyrics are a moral message about self-improvement and achievement in life ("swinging on a star"), while the alternative (a life of underachieving) is depicted using animals. However, in the modified lyrics, the animal is replaced with "an earthling" and the song compares human life on Earth with alien life in space, representing the two aspects of Evie herself.
TV ads for "Out of this World" were used in station breaks in a fictional news broadcast for the "Kongfrontation" ride at Universal Studios, accompanied by a crawl warning residents of New York City to stay indoors as military and police forces are on the lookout for King Kong.

Burt Reynolds asked that his name be left off the series' credits, since he was doing it as a favor to the producers. At the time, he was busy with another hit series, Evening Shade (1990).

The opening credits of this series feature the star-fighters from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1979) as the alien ships. Also the shots that show the aliens on their home-world in the opening series shows them wearing the ceremonial robes of the Time Lords from Doctor Who (1963).

The series revolves around Evie Ethel Garland, who is the daughter of Troy and Donna Garland. However, Troy is an alien from the planet Antereus. As a benefit of her half-alien parentage, Evie develops three powers as the series progresses. She can pause and un-pause time, "gleep" objects into existence, and can transport herself from one place to another. Troy is living on Antereus and is never seen, but Evie talks to him via a crystal cube. Evie is thirteen at the beginning of the series and lives with her mother in Marlowe, California. Visitors to the Garland home include Donna's brother Beano Froelich; the mayor Kyle Applegate, a former actor; Lindsey Selkirk, Evie's best friend; Chris Fuller, Evie's boyfriend; and Buzz, who tends to take things literally. Episodes usually revolve around Evie getting herself out of a situation that she has caused. Written by John T. Ernest

A funny series about a pretty girl who was able to stop the time
Cronopio 18 August 1999 That's it. I saw this series long time ago and what I can remember is that it was a great funny show with one of the prettiest girls I had ever seen, who was able to stop the time. She was from other world and joining the point of her fingers all stopped and people got paralized. That way she was able to arrange a lot of comic situations, changin objects and people from place to place. She was also able to make someone move in this no-time and help her while others were stopped. Maureen Flannigan (main actress of this show) appeared also in 7th Heaven as the girlfriend of Matt Camden.
