Due to the evident lack of commitment and political will to implement the recently signed peace agreement by the Government of South Sudan and its challenger, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement in Opposition commonly known as SPLM - IO, we as peace lovers have decided to petition IGAD, African Union, United Nations, and TROIKA countries under their respective leaders to take immediate action for the sake of peace in South Sudan. We have lost hope and no longer believe that South Sudan's Government under President Kiir and SPLM - IO leader Dr. Machar are interested in implementing the peace agreement that would end the war and bring peace. We explain below the reasons motivating this petition letter.

Although President Obama's "Plan B" during his Africa visit and speech in Addis Ababa was only applicable had both parties in the conflict reneged from the agreement, we now demand that "Plan B" must be applied in order to pressure the two parties towards quick and correct implementation of the agreement. We argue that persistent reluctance and failure by IGAD, AU, UN, and the TROIKA countries to take immediate action implies lack of commitment and intentional and/or unintentional refusal to end the conflict hence creating an opportunity for the government and SPLM – IO to continue violating the peace agreement. It is senseless to continue using extensive verbal pressure and diplomatic threats including inappropriate sanctions when it is clear that such strategies do not work for the particular situation.

The "Plan B" in our view means the following kinds of actions;

  1. Proposing and imposing arms embargo
  2. Investigating and freezing foreign accounts of top officials in the Government of South Sudan
  3. Sending back ambassadors and/or closing South Sudanese embassies in G7 countries including UN

We expect that after one month from now if active armed conflict persists, all the three proposals must come into effect.

We will be sad to see a blind eye turned on this petition. It is our hope that this petition will correctly inform the world's peace and security organizations and the countries mentioned above about the dire for peace by South Sudanese. We are sick of war and we can’t afford to die and suffer anymore.
