With 84.6%, 84.5% and 79% class averages going into finals respectively, the OTHS 12 chemistry class was hoping to maintain their high marks for their finals to submit to university. Unfortunately, the final exam, worth 15%, was much more challenging than they had been prepared for. With many students achieving significantly lower marks than they had going into the final exam, with an exam median of 59.5%, the student body feels as though this exam was an unfair test of their skill set. Many individuals taking this course plan to pursue science for their undergraduate studies, and consequently will be submitting their final chemistry mark to universities. A lower final mark of even 2-3% could result in a failure to meet the requirements of their program. We hope that our efforts throughout the year will be reflected through the final mark, as opposed to an unnecessarily lower mark due to an unfairly difficult exam.
