A play structure in this spot would serve the entire Faculty Neighborhood, the neighborhoods across the Oyster River, and the University's Forest Park community as well. Moreover, a play structure would also be enjoyed by the many hundreds of young kids and their siblings who come to the park for ORYA sport programs. 

At present, other playgrounds such as Jackson Landing require a 5 minute or more drive or crossing roads with significant traffic if traveling on foot or by bicycle. In an era of concern about energy usage, walkable neighborhoods like ours are a precious resource. A play structure will complete the set of services available to families here and significantly enhance Durham's appeal as one of the state's most family-friendly, walkable towns.
