We feel that the punishments handed out to those attending the Oronhyatekha Soceity annual dinner in 2012 do not fit the crimes committed and are grossly overexagerated. Namely:

• Banned from holding any position of responsibility in SEH

• Banned from the college bar for 3 years

• If you have just left, you are banned from college for 3 years

• Total fine on the Society of over £3,500

• The continued banning of the Society

• An evening per week of community service

• The proposed condemning of the Society by the JCR

• The Syndicate put on notice to hold events

• Rugby & Football Clubs put on notice to hold events

We accept that some level of punishment should be delivered, however we consider that the first 5 points above are excessessive and should be reduced or removed. They do not achieve anything constructive and are simply designed to make people unhappy and resent SEH, something that is not conducive to the long lasting legacy of SEH. The last 4 are acceptable: Community service (or for that matter working in the bar, kitchen, library or at events) is a more constructive punishment and would benefit SEH; the JCR can have its say on the matter; and the last 2 points are preventative measures, which are a good idea.

Those who have signed this petition believe that the senior management at SEH have handed out draconian punishments to a minority group in college for the actions of a couple of individuals and do not wish to support or donate to St Edmund Hall until the matter is address.
