Dear Dr. Sisk, Mr. Berry, and the Limestone County Board of Education,

After a recent pep rally between members of the Junior class at East Limestone High School, the class was made aware that they weren't "preppy" enough. During a debate between the class, the question came up "Why not just go somewhere else instead of the pep rallies?" After a lengthy debate, this appeared to be the best option to satisfy the need of both those who appreciate the football program, and those who would rather spend their time in more educational ways. In addition, some grievances held by students in favor of making pep rallies voluntary include:

  • Too loud to the point of discomfort
  • Repetitive
  • Divided
  • Uneducational
  • Takes away from valuable time that could be used in class
  • Discourages the effort of other sports including but not limited to:
    • Soccer
    • Wrestling
    • Baseball
    • Softball
    • Golf
    • Bowling

Unfortunately, as it currently stands, pep rallies are a mandatory event for the students. Through this petition we hope to change that so as to be able to compromise between those who love to show school spirit and those who do not have any particular feeling one way or another.

Sincerely,

East Limestone Junior Class
