We, the families and community members of Katimavik-Hazeldean, would like the school board to consider additional options for our local school programs in Kanata South:

Option 5:

Katimavik Elementary School (KES): EFI JK-8

CastleFrank Elementary School (CES): English JK-8 / MFI 4-8

OR

Option 5b:

Katimavik Elementary School (KES): EFI SK-8

CastleFrank Elementary School (CES): English JK-8

Glen Cairn: JK-8 English, 4-8MFI, 7-8 EFI

(status quo with MFI phased out of KES to Glen Cairn; all JK students would attend CES)

Dual track schools simply don't work in our neighbourhood. Option 5 would have many advantages, including the following:

- ease of implementation: this option would provide less disruption for students and teachers, and would be the easiest and most feasible option to implement by September 2012.

- attractive programming choice for English students: Under option 5, English students at CES could join the MFI program without switching schools.

- mentoring opportunities: Older students would continue to have mentoring opportunities. This option also allows older students to act as bus monitors or walkers.

- this option alleviates many of the difficulties of the currently proposed option which splits ALL families between schools.  Here, challenges due to transportation, childcare and scheduling are reduced.

Please don't make drastic changes to our schools. Simpler, easier changes are possible.

The board needs to look at 5b. My kids are stressed enough with all these boundary changes and this would stop the moving around.

Option 5 would be so much better for consistency. Why complicate everything with the other plans when there is a simple solution right here?

Keep our kids together. Dual track is just too chaotic for a school this size. Option 5 is the only way that makes sense for the families.

My oldest goes to KES and we really want a stable environment. dual track is a nightmare for scheduling and busing.

PLEASE listen to the parents on this one. We have been saying this for months. Stop making it so hard for the kids to stay in their own neighborhood.

Just go with option 5. It is the most fair for everyone involved.
