We the citizens of South Fulton Tn. Request that our city officials opt out of the building code enforcement with the state of Tennessee. The current building code regulations is to much of a financial burden on the citizens of this small town where a large number of homes where built many decades ago, and would require major renovations to meet 2018 code. We the citizens prefer the freedom of deciding when and how we want to take care of our property without the consent of local authorities.
We the citizens of South Fulton Tn. Also request that anyone making or enforcing rules and regulations upon us to be required to live within the city limits of South Fulton and abide by the rules they are making.

I am gathering all these signatures to present to the city council at the next session. People keep telling me the same stories about the impossible costs of these new codes.

I believe this is further bleeding the small city residents who are mostly on a low and limited budget. I believe the city needs to draw more businesses to increase their revenue and give the residents job opportunities as well as well as more commerce. Requiring residents in a small town to go through big city hoops is just another way to reach into their already strained financial conditions.
Use some common sense and it might be ok but we’re not a big city building skyscrapers.
As a citizen of South Fulton for nearly 10 years. Our home was built in 1911. We have been financially sinking every dollar we have into bettering our street (church) street. Permits would take away valuable funds from completing projects that we have had planned way before any pubic official in South Fulton has been here. It is our right to do with our property as we see fit. The people making these decisions on behalf of South Fulton residents do no live inside South Fulton, or came here recently, they’re trying to change the way we do things, and we don’t like it. Of appreciate it.
The city has no right to tell me what I can and can't do with the property I pay for. I understand needing permits for new construction and major construction work. But not for stuff like a new roof or anything to keep the house nice, like replacing rotten fascia or soffit boards, window frames, water leaks. Until the city starts paying my mortgage, the city is not going to tell me what to do with my home.
This code enforcement is going to cost homeowners a fortune. Please opt out of this enforcement. Many retired folks live here and cannot afford the cost.

I have been a resident Of south fulton for over ten years this is nonsense. I do not agree this !! I understand getting a permit for new construction or major construction, But having to get a permit and inspection to do maintenance and upgrades to the house/garage/portable buildings etc that's ridiculous.
