This petition is in opposition to 19 N May LLC’s application to rezone the property located at 1115 West Washington Boulevard and 19-27 N. May Street (“Hayden II”) to allow for the development of a 15-story building instead of the previously approved 9-story building. The proposed 15-story building would substantially increase the density of the proposed development in an area that has been overloaded from several recently completed big developments that are just one block or less away from the proposed site, namely:

  • The new McDonald’s HQ - just one block east from from the proposed site (completed: 2018)
  • The 200-room Hyatt Hotel - across the street from the proposed site on Washington Street (completed: 2019)
  • CA Washington condominiums - a 69-unit development one block east from the proposed site (completed: 2018)
  • Hayden I - a 28-unit 9-story building on Washington between May & Aberdeen St, phase one of the proposed development (completed: 2019)

The area's infrastructure has been overloaded from the above mentioned recent developments among others. To approve such high-density development is a disservice to the community and residents in the areas. In addition to the added traffic congestion, the proposed 15-story building would also create additional strain on public services and amenities in the area including the already overcrowded Skinner Elementary School, public transportation, public libraries and parks. Therefore, we stand in strong opposition to the proposed 15-story building and believe it would adversely impact current residents in the area and drive them out in the long run. We ask the zoning board and Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez to consider revising the previously approved 9-story building for the proposed site to a 6-story building, which is in line with most developments in the immediate vicinity, to help manage the substantial increase in density this area has experienced in the last 24 months.

Thank you for your consideration.
