Neighbors for Safe Roads: No ATV/UTVs on Town of Wilson Roads
As a resident of the Town of Wilson, I respectfully but firmly urge the Town Board to VOTE AGAINST permitting ATV/UTV operation on any Town of Wilson roads. My concerns are as follows:
- Public Safety: Town roads have narrow shoulders and no sidewalks, posing serious risks to pedestrians and cyclists.
- Shared Roads: Roads shared with the City of Sheboygan are closed to Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) operation, creating dangerous inconsistencies.
- Enforcement Gap: With no local police department, enforcement would rely solely on the DNR(State Statutes) and Sheboygan County Sheriff's Department(Town Ordinances).
- Licensing & Insurance: Wisconsin does not require a driver's license or insurance for ATV/UTV operation.
- OWI Loophole: An OWI on an ATV results only in a fine and does not appear on one's driving record — a serious public safety concern.
- Manufacturer Warnings: Vehicle manufacturers explicitly advise against operating ATVs/UTVs on paved roads.
The Board's primary duty is public safety — not accommodating recreational convenience at the community's expense. Please VOTE NO.

As a physician specializing in prevention I fully understand the importance of thinking ahead of the possible consequences of allowing this to happen. Only one serious accident or death by allowing these vehicles on the toad is too many. Please vote against this.
Allowing OHV's on town roads will not enhance our community! Roads are already shared with walkers and bikers. Adding OHV traffic will not only increase safety concerns but it will detract from the character of our community and the reasons people live here.
Please vote NO. I am deeply concerned about the lack of regulations regarding: No licensing is required and the ability to have open alcohol on vehicle. No alcohol should be permitted in any vehicular on the roads.
I am strongly against allowing ATV traffic in Town of Wilson roads. Safety for myself and neighbors as a cyclist a walker in the Black River area is my number 1 concern. Safety of the wildlife and noise pollution in out quiet residential area is a close number 2. Thanks
I almost hit an ATV that was driving on the road. It was dark and the ATV had no lights on the back. It was not visible until my car was very close to hitting.
There are plenty of designated off-road areas for OHV users to ride and enjoy injuring themselves, others, wildlife, etc. Our public roads are not one of those places. Thank you!

Might have been amenable if some public input was sought, certain restrictions put in place. But this seems to have been pushed by a small group of residents without any thought of their neighbors.
