Opposite for lunch

First of all, this rule is hideous. Four cohorts in the canteen. There will definitely not be enough seats for us over a thousand students to sit on. And besides, how long can you imagine the queue to be? By the time we have queued for our food, there will literally be only five minutes left with zero seats. Secondly, some of us have SSPs directly after two o'clock. And for all I know, the stalls stop selling food at a certain time range at probably 2.30 or so, because there is a lack of it. So what are people who just came out from their classes going to eat? And (considering to) install a food vending machine ain't going to help with the students filling their stomachs. It's unhealthy and have only a small amount. That's when the real complains from parents are going to fall in.

pls abolish the rule dont make everyone suffer

With regards to this situation at hand, I believe there are reasons to explore and validate on why the new school rule is facing such criticism and disapproval amongst the students. The first issue I would like the address would be the space and time constraint that we students would have to overcome if this new rule is implemented. So here's the situation; The school bell rings, signalling for the 'end' of school. The students across all levels, after greeting their teachers, proceeds to the canteen to grab their lunch. The upper secondary, being generally closer to the canteen, manages to get to the seats and starts queuing ahead of the rest. When the lower secondary finally reaches the canteen, they would be greeted by the interesting sight of the 7 famous canteen snakes. Most are intrigued and thus decided to join the snakes whereas the rest are afraid of snakes so they went away, albeit with only hydrochloric acid in their stomachs. I"ll have to stop here to finish the Mount. Everest- like pile of homework siting on my desk. TBC...

honestly this rule is ridiculous. spare a thoughts for the vendors. they have to prepare more food for the students and teachers which also requires more effort, energy , and time. normally upper sec students will be dismissed later than the lower sec. and the queue might be very long too. maybe when the upper sec students are dismissed, the food are already sold out. which means some of the upper sec students are going to starve. think before you set this new rule.

It's just a hasty generalization to implement the rule just because a few parents complain about their children Jay walking and stuff and to not listen to the majority . Even the government think of the concerns of the majority and not the minorities before doing things . (Learnt from social studies ^_^) thus I hope to eat outside ( Tolong Tolong ) the bubble tea and coffee shop has really nice food .

I believe that this rule doesn't make much sense as people who have CCAs on Friday usually start their CCAs nearly 2 hours later and to make them wait in school for 2 hours and not let them roam around is rather uncalled for. Furthermore, there's also the case of the canteen stalls not selling food past 2 or 2:30. This affects students who don't have to stay back for CCAs but for other purposes as there will be no food left for them yet they are not allowed to go out to eat. This is not very sensible in my opinion.

I would just like to say that, as seen from the many responses, the students of Zhonghua throughout the cohorts are unhappy with the new implemented rule. I understand that the school is concerned about the safety and well-being of the students, but this is not a good way to do so as it affects students’ emotional well-being. Being allowed to go out of school for lunch is something that we have done for many years, and so far, nothing has happened. This shows that Zhonghua students are responsible enough to take care of ourselves and it allows the students to learn to be independent. Surely we cannot always rely on others to take care of us and be pampered right? Eventually, we will have to go out into the real world and deal with the dangers of it, so this is allowing us to be prepared and to train us. Also, going out of school for lunch allows many students to forge stronger bonds with their friends and allows them to get closer. This is essential for a student’s social well-being and it is paramount that students get the freedom they need. It is impossible for them to stay in school for about 10 hours a day for four years just studying, everyday just facing the same walls. They need to relax outside of school and be able to breathe in the fresh air instead of being cooped up inside a compound. The students have also made friends with the uncles and aunties opposite of school, so what would happen if the students just one day stop going there? The uncles and aunties would be lonely, and they would not have any more income. The canteen vendors in our school also need to have a break. They wake up early and already close up the stalls quite late. Imagine if a whole school goes for lunch at the same time. They would be so busy and that would affect their health. The students are also concerned about them. Another point is that the school canteen is too small to fit in over a thousand students. It is already difficult enough when there is two cohorts, what more four c

I hate the new rule plz take it down

It is more reasonable to implement this kind of rule to a PRIMARY school or maybe the Sec 1 . BUT to the upper sec students...REALLY? IS THIS RULE NECESSARY ? Well i think not , THATS WHY this PETITION is CREATED

We ate canteen food for years and so sian alr and somemore now gonna eat the same food for lunch?? Remove the rule and let us out for lunch again uh

If you think that the school canteen will lose business, maybe you're doing something wrong. Unless you can control the students' every move in life, why implement a rule that only applies to school hours?

Wonderful to know, that while the school brands its students as scholars and leaders, it does not see them as such. It does not trust them to behave responsibly, such that it enforces such rules upon them. This is the mark of a nanny system, where it protects its members, to an absurd extent. Everything it does, it says, is in the interest of its members. It does everything it can to shield its members from any perceived dangers. It is being overly protective, to the point where it is interfering unduly with personal choice. Such a system is not just flawed on that basis alone, but it also creates a place which raises overly protected students. This is already a time where kids are increasingly being protected, where their parents and schools are so protective of them. This is actually, contary to their flawed viewpoint, a less than sensible idea. It teaches their kids to shy from any perceived danger. It does not let them develop their own independence. Even a simple trip across a road here is seen as dangerous? How is this any more different from the trip to school and back home. If the school is really that concerned, they would establish a hostel to allow the students to remain at home to reduce the danger even more. Then, they can lock each student in a padded cell, so they cant hurt themselves from hitting the walls. Then, you put each child in a straitjacket so they cant hit themselves. You see, despite all these being well intentioned, these are all absurd solutions to the problem. While this is not as egregious as any of the examples, i do hope the school authorities may realise this is similar, and that their design to protect the students is equally absurd. I will not touch on as to how this plan is hilarious infeasible, given how that point has been repeated ad nausem. The school has to learn that there are times it has made a wrong decision. Being in this sch for 4 years, when I heard about the new sch rule, I was shocked. This rule has definitely raised many negative opinions from students and maybe even teachers and vendors. The intention of keeping the students safe and also protecting the sch (will get in trouble if smth happen to students during sch hrs) is understandable, however, the new rule is one that does not benefit the students. The school thinks that by putting vending machines in the canteen. Then what about our health? Do u wish for the students to continue suffering? Even with the new implementation, the queues will still be long, people will still choose to not eat just to be responsible students we are and attend classes on time. If the concerns are of the student's safety, I suggest the sch to get parents' opinion not only from those at the breakfast talk.

I believe the school's reason behind disallowing students to go out for lunch is perhaps they think that students waste a lot of time outside when they could be studying or doing their homework between the hours of cca and ssp. But banning the students from going out for lunch creates a bigger problem because often after school, there is just not enough food for so many students and what about the students who are released slightly later? Does it mean that they do not need to eat? School food is nutritious but there is not enough to feed so many students. Allowing students to go out doesn't mean they will make smart food choices but some of them do and it's better than starving through an hour or even 2 hours of ssp for the upper sec preparing for o levels. Unless the school can provide a way to feed so many students, it would still be wiser to allow students to eat outside of school for lunch.

Students should be allowed to eat outside. The Traffic light near our school are barely 50 meters away once you walk out from the school gate. With such convenience of the placings of these traffic lights , I am very certain that students themselves will not compromise their safety by jaywalking when the traffic light is just around the korner. With that I think the rule is a bit too ridiculous and shld be toned down.

I think that since it is our free time, we should have the right to go where we want.

This is actually a good chance for the school to inculcate self discipline for the students and not just set a rule so that they should just follow. Our students need to learn to start thinking for themselves and start to consider the consequences of their own actions. If they feel that they are able to get what they want to get done within the mere 30mins, then let them be. If they are late for their appointment (be it CCA/SSP) in school, then they should face the consequences of it (punishment). It is not fair for the school to just stop the rest who wants to maximise their time to go to NEX (to run some urgent errands) or go to the opposite block for lunch, but yet actually make the effort to be on time for appointments back in school. Instead of just setting a rule outright, why not remind students to think carefully about whether the mere 30mins break for lunch is enough for them to go over to NEX for lunch, and let them decide if they would want to risk it and go ahead, and face the consequences. Then what happens to those who has an even longer break to their next appointment in school? Won't the rule be rather unfair to them as well? With that said, the school have to ensure that the canteen will be able to handle the entire school population at the canteen at the same time since many (if not most) of the students have extra activities after school. As an ex-Zhonghuarian, my experience is that sometimes the queue is so long, that we are often left with 5/10 mins to gobble down our meal. There was also no such rule when i was there. We had the freedom to decide how we want to spend our 30mins (or even longer breaks) , and we turned out fine. And I believe these kids will too.

It's not just about eating. We sometimes have to go home to collect our things, or buy something. What if we leave something in school and want to go back to collect it? It's not just the food, but we also want the freedom to go back and forth school without having to get a stupid pass from teachers

It's really unfair for the students , especially for the upper Sec , because they have ssp and Guess wut ? It's 30 mins , in 30 mins , they have to queue and maybe after they get their food there's probably only like what , 5mins to eat ? And the thing is , even if they can get their food , will there be seats ? No. the sch expect us to stand and eat ? This is absurd . This ain't no prison. The school actually expects 1000+ students to fit in the small canteen ? Wow , just wow. And think of the Uncle and Aunty from the bubble tea shop !! Their income are mostly based on students , and I'm being really honest here , it's true , just ask the dcom observe and they will see . What about their businesses ? And if this actually is gonna happen, then Teachers should NOT be allowed to come in after they have left either :)

Fron next term onwards, the sec 4s will have double ssps on some days; and some of us dont go down for recess in the morning & will use the lunch break to consume our lunch instead. With the new school rule implemented, how are we going to fit 4 conhorts into one small canteen? Is it even viable to have everyone to get their food within 30mins of eating & queuing?? Yes, our safety is the corncern of the school, but having our freedom restricted & the possible scenario of half the school population hungry after ssp ends, is it really fair to us?? We weren't even allowed to have a say in anything before the rule was even implemented...
