Opposing the LLB Law staff office move

Student centred means just that, putting the needs of the students first. The 'call centre' approach to the educational and pastoral care needs of students is dehumanising and lacks the personal approach that is currently and has historically been provided. Students and staff are not commodities upon the shelving of a DIY store, they are human beings with a plethora of diverse needs. Withing a university shelving is to hold the books required to support the facilitation of learning. A small cupboard in an open plan office may well be appropriate in a business selling insurance or similar, but it is hardly the environment to inspire genuine academic learning!

Would like to see reasons behind this proposal and why students were not informed of this sooner.

This would seriously impact our experience with the lecturers It's perfect how it is!!!

I agree with all the points made identifying that open plan offices for academics are a retrograde step. Sadly university management have not listened to any representations made by academic staff. They are determined to impose this due to the fact that they have signed (the) contract(s) to progress this ill conceived initiative.

I oppose any move that places hurdles between myself and the students. I remember my university days with affection, I had a brilliant rapport with my tutors and that was largely fuelled by the fact that I was often able to visit them in the privacy of their own offices.

'Dont attempt to fix what's not broken'

With the way the offices are laced out currently, it allows students to talk to tutors without feeling like they are being listened to by others especially when it is discussing personal issues.

The system as it is now works brilliantly and changing it would be an uneccessary disruption for everyone.

I have enjoyed the staff having individual offices for the last four years, has been so much help to easily be able to find a lecture in a closed quiet office, this move will make things harder for everyone involved

If you want nicer offices make them nicer. Possible glass walls so this will look open but keep the structure how it is. It's so nice to just walk past an Z offices and pop in to say hi etc or to answer a quick question

I have to agree with the petition, this would affect my studies very badly as I benefit greatly from being able to drop in and seeing my various teachers whenever I want too... I am not sure why this idea was even put into action in the first place.

Fully agree with what has been said. This is going to negatively affect me going in to my most important year when I need as much contact time as possible in doing my dissertation and getting help on other topics on the course. Please think again.

I as a student oppose the idea of not having open door policy with our lecturers. An appointment system will not work especially for final year students doing their dissertation. Private office space for students to discuss their studies with lecturers is necessary

This would have a negative effect on grades, individual feedback and the help students receive from lecturers.
