We are opposed to the proposed business location for Ameripawn at 3619-29 N. Western Avenue. Alderman Pawar and community members have it made it very clear to the Zoning Board of Appeals and Ameripawn that we do not want this business in our neighborhood. This pawn shop would be situated between two schools - Lane Tech High School and Bell Elementary School. We strongly believe that a pawn shop should not be located within blocks of children going to and from school every day. While pawn shop operators wish to project a positive light on their industry, as Ameripawn did at the August 16 ZBA meeting, this community does not believe this to be true. Our community already has seen a recent rise in break-ins and property theft. We believe this type of business will not curb these types of crime and may very well contribute to an increase in them.
