I oppose the planned multi family developement on Deloach because of increased traffic - Feel that UM should find another location for student housing not impacting so many single family neighborhoods.

This project abuts the back fence of our home at 216 Patterson St. We strongly oppose the granting of a special use permit as it: (1) Will adversely and dramatically impact our property values - UM's application evaded addressing this. (2) Will adversely impact surrounding neighborhood - UM's application didn't even acknowledge the prior written agreement with neighborhoods. (3) Is not in accordance with UM's own Master Plan which shows much less density and a buffer zone between development and surrounding neighborhood of at least a street and ~130' of green space. UM's application demonstrates through its omissions, inconsistencies and mistakes that very little forethought went into putting this project in this location. The University has enough residential space on the north side of its campus. There is space available on South Campus for additional residential space if needed. Also, between the south and main campuses is PLENTY of space for development that would completely serve the purpose and would also be beneficial for that side of campus.

Please do not destroy these lovely established green lush neighborhood streets with more ugly concrete parking lots or dorms. UofM has lots of unused space over behind the nursing school. UofM SHOULD BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR NOT A BULLY. Please stop this wreck less expansion.

It is exciting that the University has set its sight on growth, but it needs to honor its 2003 agreement. If it does not, the University will be complicit in destroying several vibrant Memphis neighborhoods and communities. Please do the right thing and find another location for this project.

As a resident of Patterson Street between Central and Poplar, I wish to express my opposition to the planned student housing development as proposed (The Central At Memphis PD-20-14). The University has failed to solicit or take into account feedback from nearby neighborhoods in any substantive way and appears to be ignoring an existing agreement with adjoining neighborhood groups that was co-developed as a compromise to all parties. As neighbors and University supporters, we appreciate the needs of the University to grow, but not at the expense of existing neighbors and communities. I hope the University will remember that it is not only the campus that attracts world class students and faculty, but a vibrant city and thriving surrounding neighborhoods.

This construction will increase traffic on Deloach. The parking lot will increase noise as students come and go at all hours. The parking lot and dorms will probably flood with light. I expect excessive levels of noise from both the dorms and the parking lot. Where before I could see the moon from by backyard now I will see a four story monolith. Who would want to live next to this? Not I.

The project is directly contrary to a written agreement with 5 adjoining neighborhood group. I will increase traffic on Poplar, contrary to the agreement, and replace an attractive entrance to the University with oversized building for which the street was not zoned. It appears that there will be twice as many beds as parking places. Most students will have cars.

As a neighbor on Poplar Avenue, I feel privileged to be the first to sign this petition. I would add that a university that knowingly fails to honor commitments that it has pledged to its neighbors should not be entrusted to teach law or ethics. Please show us that you will be a good neighbor and do that right thing.
