​Petition Opposing the ATX City Council Giving Away $278 Million in Our Taxes to Wealthy Developers

Austin needs these tax dollars. People are moving in faster than we can keep up with infrastructure. No tax incentives!

A developer will seek as much taxpayer money as they can get with sad stories and falsehoods and exaggerations. It is our elected officials at City Council who must protect the interests of the people of Austin, us, the taxpayers. To our elected City Council people: the financial numbers, real estate reality on the ground, legal definitions and common sense say a taxpayer investment is not needed in this case. Taxpayer investments are not to increase a developer's profit, but to improve the lives of all residents of Austin.

I understand the need for tax breaks and city paid infrastructure creation for companies that won't come to Austin without them. Companies that guarantee new, decent paying jobs that are outside the normal, organic job creation curve we see in Austin month to month. But we're not in competition with other cities for the SCWF. And this development is not a gross=net new permanent job creation engine, such as brand new high tech factory. The development of this area has its own rational financial drivers with profits sufficient to motivate any developer, without the need for onerous taxpayer support. As you know, the cost of living has skyrocketed in Austin. Every tax dollar should be used even more judiciously than before. Please consider carefully the wisdom of using tax dollars to support the SCWF.

City council has been selling us out to development for years now. They need to be stopped. Our mayor only cares about the monied white folks !! Doesn't care about the minorities.

The last thing we as a city need to worry about is encouraging developers! They will come anyway. Their infrastructure costs us money, but only they benefit. Stop subsidizing corporations’ taxes! They should pay, since we all pay!

We would rather keep our Libraries, parks and affordable housing and other public needs.

South Congress has already been overdeveloped and prices are out of range for the average tax paper.

I live close by to this please don't make my neighborhood full of buildings and kill the natural wildlife habitat. This will also hurt low income housing.

Developers should pay for their own projects. Lord knows they have the money to do it. Taxpayers should not subsidize private development.

Craziness…. How about funding the repair of our existing streets, sidewalks, and trash filled creeks. How about figuring out a solution for the homeless population. There are lots of unbudgeted needs in Austin …a big fat development that will mostly benefit the rich sounds like a bad idea for taxpayers.
