We oppose the proposed rezoning of 19100 Altar Dearborn, MI 48128. We believe rezoning this property to permit a hotel development would significantly change the character of this area and would have a negative impact on the surrounding properties. Altar Road is currently a unique feature of Dearborn that currently only houses Non-Profit Community based organizations. A hotel would result in injecting commercial development into a small section of Dearborn that currently has none. In addition to increased traffic, commercial developments like a hotel would attract activity that requires increased vigilance and protection by Dearborn’s police to ensure public safety in an area that has several schools with thousands of children and hundreds of senior citizens in adjacent and nearby buildings. Because a hotel would change the character of the neighborhood, increase traffic and increase public safety concerns, we oppose rezoning this property.
