Oppose Lincoln Expansion and Save Our Playground

The proposed Lincoln annex is an ill-advised solution to Lincoln's overcrowding challenge. There are safer, quicker, more cost-effective options that could be pursued.

I am absolutely not against improvements in our Chicago schools, but I am totally disgusted at the manner in which this has been handled right from the beginning. I have lived here and paid taxes on my home (617 W. Fullerton Pkwy.) since 1959. You are not handling my taxed money in a fair and honest manner.

My name is Lynn Rosenberg and I live at 2323 N Orchard St, Chicago, Il 60614. I am appalled at the Administrative Adjustment that has been granted to the rear yard setback from 37’ to 3’ of the proposed Lincoln School Annex. There are well established zoning rules that have been in existence for many years meant to stabilize an area that has been ruled historic. These zoning rules/laws are supposed to protect the area from building monstrosities that are out of character with the historic nature of this tight knit community. Does this mean that other people in the area can request building permits to build four story coach houses in our back yard that are on the other side of the alley of Lincoln School? I would bet that we would all be turned down on the basis that the coach houses are out of character with the existing historic neighborhood, as it should be!. I am absolutely against the massive Lincoln Annex that is planned to be built on lot line to the lot line of the Lincoln playground thus eliminating the Lincoln playground. And guess what, this the plan dictates (yes you heard me correctly, “dictates”) that the children are to play in the Kemper street. This ill-conceived, unsafe plan also eliminates the much needed neighborhood parking, IE: Orchard street parking will be completely eliminated and Kemper parking will be eliminated during school hours to make space for the children that had their playground taken away from them. Is this how CPS and Mayor Emanuel treats children? How despicable. Do the planners of this massive Lincoln Annex think the neighbors are just plain dumb?? The planners have been requested by many objectors to move the school boundaries so the 600 vacant seats in the immediately adjacent schools can be filled thus eliminating any overcrowding of Lincoln school.. Children need more space to play before and after school and current proposal does not provide a solution

Where do I even begin??

I believe a playground is a necessary part of a great education - benefits the students and the teachers!!!!

I fully support Lincoln School's mission. In the same vein, I trust that they are sensitive to their footprint amongst their neighbors.

Numerous studies have shown that students who are physically active have improved academic performance, achieve higher test scores, and demonstrate a better attitude toward school. This expansion initiative wreaks of a politician at who likely could have benefitted from a bit more outdoor activity as a child!!

Give the children the space they deserve and need.

I am proud to sign this petition. Go Lincoln. Its children, parents and legacy!

why has Lincoln jumped over so many overcrowed schools that are in greater need. This is shameful.

What Michelle Smith has done is disgraceful. To support a project of thi magnitude and NOT to include the surrounding area is beyond reason. Twice every day this entire area is gridlocked. The alleys surrounding the school are blocked. Driveways are blocked. Cars are double parked on Geneva from Fullerton to Grant. They double park on Belden. If there is a medical/fire emergency innocent lives can be lost. This illegal parking happens all the time. If you can, just imfagine the gridlock that will result with cars picking up/dropping off an additional 500 students. And, by the way, there is no plan for a pick up/drop off area. If there was no other solution we would say, "so be it". BUT there are several viable solutions. Why would Michelle Smith not include the community that will be most impacted in related discussions? Why such a disregard for this community? Isn't she suppose to represent all of us??

Please save this heavily used playground for the children of our community - less open space and more congestion will drive more families out of the city and deprive other areas of much needed infrastructure.

There are better solutions.

There are too many students now at Lincoln elementary and the 20 million dollars for its expansion to go to other schools.

I oppose the doubling in size of Lincoln School. We accross the street from the school.

We have to think of the children. Enough with trying to benefitt our own gains. It's all about the CHILDREN!
