Laura. You are right on! America has strong property rights. If an HOA or a town does not forbid renting at the time you purchase your property then you may rent it. You may continue to do so even if it banned by an HOA or town after you purchase the home. People who rent their homes are not doing anything illegal. The alliance of politicians and big business that is pushing this legislation is trying to remove those rights by taxing and regulating homeowners out of their property rights. I am not sure which “Republican Party” they belong to.

Phyllis. Thanks for signing up. Your comments are spot on. If you can spare the time go one step further. Open the link to one of the letters at the bottom of the page. Edit it for your particular concerns and then send it off to one of the politicians. Like it or not, this is in the hands of the politicians now and they need the citizens to let them know what they think. Better yet pick up a phone and contact them at the number provided. An earful is probably even more effective than a letter.

There's no such thing as a "reasonable regulation." Lake homeowners have been renting homes to out of town guests for decades, without incident. This propsed legislation will ultimately tax and regulate many vacation homes out of existence, causing tourism and local businesses to suffer. Very sad that our "conservative" legislators are behind this.

Lake of the Ozarks is a tourist attraction and it is the tourist that support our local economy & community. I oppose any regulation that would support the tourist dollars of our community to go to any national corporation or organization. It only seems right that home owners that already pay property tax on the homes they own be able to decide how and when they use their homes.

We need to allow part time residents to continue to rent out their homes. It allows local trades and residents to continue to grow their businesses and livelihoods. As visitors come they expect high quality and accommodations thus the need for upgrades, preventative maintenance, stronger business relationships to best serve them and vacationers. Especially after the summer season has ended, the population decreases drastically as does the demand for businesses around the lake area.

I'm am happy to sign this. Please, we do not want more regulations. It's been so hard for our local economy, which has finally begun to rebound after the terrible great recession. Let us continue to grow and prosper here at the lake. We need the vacation rentals.
