The changes that are being proposed for the Ashton West project on
Glenridge Drive just north of Mt. Vernon Rd are to say the least alarming. On the stretch of Glenridge north of the existing housing on the right
hand side is a wooded area that stretches about a half mile until it
reaches Abernathy. Similarly, on the left hand side is a wooded area
that is north of the Mount
Vernon Presbyterian Church. The Ashton Woods developer is planning on
building a Mercedes corporate office complex consisting of two
buildings -- a three story building now for 1000 employees and a nine
story building for an undisclosed number more at some
future date. We have all heard of the Mercedes project and the mayor
and city hall have been touting this as a great thing for Sandy
Springs. The Mercedes building is not what we are concerned about. It
is the 1200 condos, town homes and apartments (400
apartments) that are going in with the Mercedes building that have not
gotten near the press. This “new urbanization” is not part of
the City’s Comprehensive Development Plan, which calls for Sandy
Springs to be a single family home residential community. It is in fact
contrary to the plan.
Please sign the petition to oppose the proposed zoning, which as it stands will have detrimental effects on our property values and add substantial traffic to an already congested area.
There are too many longterm decisions being made on the fly by our SS government right now. High density in this area is wrong. Traffic needs to be improved now even before adding even 1 single officer worker or resident to the Abernathy corridor first!
