Opposition to declaring Robben Island Marine Protected Area

highly doubt this petition will make a dent in the decision of the minister, but hopefully it will , especially if it reaches 2500. I need to make my point. This is just another example of how this country is getting more f****d by the day. Little by little the whole west coast is closing down on us fisherman. Just in, this week we may not camp/overnight or 4x4 at trekoskraal anymore. That automatically means no fishing for me. You won't just drive there to fish there for the day. We fish and dive there because we could camp there. Those days are over. The boom at ganzekraal is closed (I know for why) but now a beautiful slip is wasted because you can't work at a way to allow legit fisherman to launch there. Search our cars and boats for wetsuits and crayfish nets and if we comply let us use the boom for a fee. That way you get richer. We can't even drive around with the 4x4 to kablejoubank anymore as we now get a R2500 fine if we park there even if it is above the "hoogwater merk". I stopped on the hill and wanted to drag my small inflatable down to go lay in the bay and catch my 5 kob and go home, but no, I got chased away by inspectors, everything on me was legit licenses everything. If it's not cape nature it's the government. Bokbaai the same. It holds great kob and geelbek, but also closed to us fisherman. Only a handful of guys fish there because they know the farm manager how lucky for them. I can go on about every piece of the west coast right down to melkbos. Really, you can't turn every piece of land on the west coast into a nature reserve for F**K sake, for what for why for who? Why do you want to close 1nm around robben? Because a terrorist mandela walked on it's earth? There is absolutely no point in it. But you know it all comes down to one thing in the end. Race. You want to deprive the white man and even the colored man of his rights and privileges. You won't stop until you've taken everything away from us want julle kry mos so fokken lekker. Thank

Just another example of Government Departments hitting the recreational fisherman/diver. These laws only protect commercial businesses and ultimately poachers. These laws
contribute nothing to conservation of resources. I will certainly be signing this petition.

Trek netters took over quarter of a million yellowtail out in the space of a few weeks this season. Rather just impose a limit on what they (and commercials) can take out than shut down a whole area for recreationals whose impact is minimal.

They can't even control a land they know a little about now they want to control the see which they know absolutely nothing about what next who knows if they get away with it maybe they will try to sell us the oxygen we breathe in

Recreational fisherman who goes out occasionally to catch snoek and yellow tail. Don't even reach quota!
If one really has to close Robben open somewhere else that is currently a reserve!!

I think this is my heritage to be able to fish in table bay including robben island as a Cape Town Resident. I have been doing it for the last forty year why stop it now! Totally unexceptable.

Better policing will help save our fish stocks but a complete ban will just result in more people fishing illegal in the area. Rather reduce the limits that people are allowed to take.
