The E3 Media & Business Summit is important to the electronic entertainment industry. It is a place where developers can show the world what they have been working on and what to expect in the coming months or years. Before now the show has been a media and industry only trade show, but it could be so much more. While it is important to the industry to secure business deals and make information available to the media it is equally important that the companies represented at E3 impress those that matter, the buying public. The current show does a disservice to the electronic entertainment industry but being a media only event. Ultimately the businesses at E3 must convince the public to buy their products and services and the only information the public ever receives about these new products and services is third person reports and biased news articles. E3 could be the Leipzig and the Tokyo Game Show of America drawing in developers and visitor from around the world. Such a show would have a largely positive economic impact as it would encourage tourism not only from all parts of the country but all over the world. In keeping E3 private the ESA is doing a disservice to the city hosting the event, the customers who ultimately buy the products from companies represented by the ESA, and the electronic entertainment industry of America and the world as a whole. This petition calls for the ESA to open E3 2009 and all future E3 events to the general public transforming the show into the electronic entertainment industry's equivalent of the North America International Auto Show. This is important because it is the buy public that companies like Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, and others must impress in the end. It is "you" the game buyer who buys their products and pays their bills. Sign this petition and let your voice be heard.
