Having experienced virtual schooling at the graduate level, I would be happy to discuss what might have helped the learning experience as a whole.

I’m signing this petition because I feel it is written in a way that embraces how I feel regarding the need for an in person learning experience, particularly in the ELC. The intent not being to “kick anybody when they’re down” but rather to work together in a collaborative way to come up with a reasonable solution to the issue. Requiring children in the 2.5-5 year old age range to be in front of a computer for almost 4 hours simply does not feel like a reasonable solution. This is a time when they need to be learning skills such as conflict resolution, sharing, sitting quietly in a circle and other key social development skills. I want my children to develop a joy for learning. I’m concerned the current model will do just the opposite of that. My experience with STS to date has been an extremely positive one. It’s a community that supports one another and certainly would not want any teacher to return that didn’t feel comfortable doing so. It’s an environment full of committed parents willing to pitch in and help out. STS is a great community and I believe that if we work together we can achieve great things.

This petition is a show of support for the hybrid plan Dr Wheeler rolled out. This petition is in no way designed to be divisive or anti teacher. The goal of this petition is A. To show the school a sampling of the parents who support a hybrid model B. To convey our willingness to go the extra mile to make that happen. I’m not sure if you are a teacher or a parent as this comment was made anonymously. I think right now it’s more important then ever to understand each others thoughts and positions. This comment feels more like a veiled threat (ie good to know your names?) then a sincere attempt to work together as a school towards a solution.

The intent of this petition is to show the school that we support the hybrid plan laid out by Dr Wheeler. We support his vision in safely getting students and teachers back in the classroom while putting their health and well being first. It is in no way intended to be divisive or hurt teachers.

Way to kick teachers when they’re already down. Nice to see your names and know who doesn’t support us.

Kids need interaction with their friends. This is a much needed learning tool as well as psychological well being.

Given many private schools are choosing to provide in-school classes for pre-school and the ineffectiveness of remote learning for these ages, I strongly support reopening for those who choose to participate.

It’s unhealthy if children stay at home for an extended period of time.

I support the petition and would support 100% on-campus, in-person learning.

Evidence suggests, that children's understanding of mind develops gradually in the context of social interaction. Young children (3-5yrs), require social interaction for normal development. A social understanding involves the child's experience of the world, as well as communicative interaction with others about their experiences and beliefs. It is through this interaction that children gradually construct knowledge of the world, as well as knowledge of others. Experiencing the world, influences the development of a child’s social understanding, to engage in cooperative social interaction and exposure to ‘talk’. Without play and social interaction, children are emotionally affected and stunted. With the resources available to STS, school can safely commence at the start of the school year. A very concerned grand parent.

Well articulated by Ashley. Actions speak louder than words, and there has been no attempt by STS over summer to make up for the lost learning in Spring. Please open the school in a reasonable, hybrid way, so that the pupils can have a chance to reach their full potential.

I 100% believe that our kids should be going back to school and I believe that kids ages 3-5 should not have much screen time, it is absolutely ignorant to assume that remote learning will work for these ages.
