For more than 1526 days, Afghan girls have been banned from secondary schools and universities. That is 1522 days of stolen dreams, interrupted ambitions, and futures put on hold. Afghan women and girls are not asking for special treatment or miracles. They are asking for the most basic human right: the right to learn.

Recently, many people around the world have spoken on behalf of Afghan women, including respected scholars who may not have full information about our daily reality. It was deeply disappointing to hear claims that girls are not studying due to temporary “security reasons.” This is not true. Afghan girls themselves are saying it clearly: there is no education, no universities, and no pathway for us to build our future. Life has become extremely difficult and hopeless for millions of Afghan families who believe in the power of education.

Islam has never denied girls the right to knowledge. Bibi Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated more hadiths than many companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Prophet trusted her intelligence, memory, and wisdom. This alone shows the immense value Islam places on the knowledge of women. The Qur’anic command “Iqra” was given to all humanity. It does not specify gender, nationality, or age. Seeking knowledge is for everyone.

Afghan girls are simply asking the world to hear their voices directly, instead of relying on outsiders who may not understand their suffering. We urge leaders, scholars, organizations, and communities to stand with Afghan women and demand the reopening of schools and universities.

Education is the key to dignity, hope, and a peaceful future. Every day that girls remain banned is another day of injustice.

We call for immediate action to restore education for Afghan girls. Their future cannot wait any longer.
