This is the “best country” in the world and this government treat children like this? What is wrong with America?

No words other than "egregious evil" can be found to describe this unspeakable display of crimes against humanity. I am reminded of the Deity of the Hebrew Scriptures who comes to Hagar and her child in the wilderness with provisions for survival. I am reminded of the Manger of the Christian Testament where God hovers over a vulnerable mother and child. I am reminded of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, Article 25 that insists that motherhood deserves special protection. No nursing mother should have her child ripped from her arms. No child of any age should be subjected to this level of cruelty. Unconscionable. I am ashamed of my country. I feel like a stranger in a foreign land with no Song to sing (Psalm 137). Daily I am reminded of the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that we must strive to "hew a stone of hope out of a mountain of despair." And that "although the Arc of the Moral Universe bends slowly, it does bend toward justice."
