Open Mounger Pool in Magnolia, Seattle sooner than scheduled!

We are petitioning Seattle Parks and Rec to open Mounger Pool in Magnolia, Seattle for a longer duration than what is scheduled for the 2022 season. We would like the pool to open in early May and extend it through September 30th. This pool is vital to the community and region as it is only 1 of 2 outdoor pools in all of Seattle. Being able to swim at an outdoor pool during Seattle's short summer is essential as well as a safer option during the ongoing pandemic.
The pool serves recreational and competition swimmers, provides swimming lessons for children of all ages, and holds exercise classes daily. It is especially important to our mobility challenged and handicap community. Our Seniors use the exercise classes daily and for many, this is the only form of exercise they are able to do.
While we are aware of staffing issues, we urge you to consider reallocation of staff and budget as well as training of new staff in order to extend the incredibly short season for Mounger Pool.
Swimming is an essential life skill; and this community and the many people who come to swim here from the surrounding region deserve the safest option during the continued pandemic. Thank you!

Seattle Parks and Rec is trying to brush us off with their pathetic schedule but 250 of you have already joined the fight. It is time for these bureaucrats to stop making excuses and open Mounger Pool before the summer is wasted.

Delaying the opening of mounger pool a month shortens the swim season by a 1/3 in an already swim starved city of Seattle. It’s difficultly enough to get lessons for kids here on top of availability of public pools.
I am immunocompromised, remain very concerned about covid and rely on swimming as my primary exercise activity. The outdoor pool is safe place for seniors like myself to get exercise with fresh air and limited concerns about COVID. Please open the pool in May.
Please open the pool on time for our kiddos! I am happy to volunteer or help recruit lifeguards if staffing is the issue. Please contact me if so. I am a decent swimmer but a much better recruiter. :)
please please please open our neighborhood pool, the only outdoor pool in most of seattle, so that our kids can have a very developmentally important chance to swim this summer!! get kids off tablets and into pools! In this post covid time its SOOO important for their mental health!!!
I fully support this petition. As an older swimmer with joint problems, the water exercise is the one of the few physical activities I can participate in. We need our pools!

Clearly, it’s too late now to open in May, but it would be sensible to keep Mounger Pool open through at least the end of September. This is a resource that the City is woefully under utilizing…especially at a time like now.

This pool is an amazing resource for many North End residents, beyond Magnolia - when it's open in the summer, I attend 2 or 3 times a week for deep water aerobics, coming from Ballard. Please reconsider your budgeting to open earlier. Thank you.
