My mother was a life member of the BFI and would have been as astounded and appalled as I am that you are honouring a narcissistic Male instead of an intrepid female! Sort yourselves out BFI!!!

Epic trolling by the BFI. The fact they couldn't be bothered to find a transwoman film-maker to invite suggests this is not about diversity.

It is an insult to underrepresented female film makers & totally contradicts the whole point of the event to have a transgender person, born & raised & socialised as a male, representing women. I'm sure there are plenty of female born film directors, producers, buffs you could ask. Please reconsider!

This is a slap in the face to women. Have a trans day but keep this for women and their experiences.

Of all the people you could have invited for Women with a Camera, please explain, in detail, why you have invuted an individual with no experience or interest in filmmaking, and whose interests, by their own admission do not align with women. I uphold transsexual rights and support transsexuals being visible and celebrated. But this event has nothing whatsoever to do with transgender issues.

Appalling we are even having to petition against this. So fed up of women being ignored and replaced with a man In a dress

There are a myriad of women you could have chosen who fought so hard and worked so hard to be acknowledged and you have made a very poor choice and chosen a misogynistic person

Surely an event claiming to focus on women filmmakers can find a woman who makes film to represent it?

A man dressed as acwoman who doesnt make films as keynote speaker. What can he possibly know about making films as acwoman in an industry that shuns us. Well thought through misogyny

A woman should present this award

Women are oppressed and excluded on the material basis of sex. It defeats the object of an initiative like yours to choose a speaker who identifies with superficial femininity but has no experience of the obstacles women face.

Yet another example of a trans person taking the place of a natal woman. Shameful.

Female equality, participation and recognition will never be achieved if the microphone is always held by a male.
