A trans woman cannot have had the same difficulty & experiences as a woman. She will have her own but in that case let her talk in a separate forum. Women should not be forced out by someone who is not biologically a woman, with all the issues that flow from that.

Women are not allowed to talk about trans experience, so why are transwomen talking about women's experience? Get a natal born woman to talk! There are plenty of us!

Women are born with millions of eggs in their body. They menstruate monthly for an average of 40 years. They go to death’s door to birth & nourish their children from their bodies & continually nourish & nurture their families communities & the world. To deny the uniqueness, inherent worldview & wisdom of women is to go against the natural order of the universe

I will not accept Trans Women speaking on behalf of female women & girls. Let Trans people tell their own Transgender stories. Simple!

Please ask a real woman to speak at a women's film making event. By all means ask Munro bergdof to speak if you are holding a transgender event.

Who on earth could think that this was a good idea? Disrespectful to all women who work in or watch film the BFI should be ashamed of all who sanctioned this.

Just insulting to women, again. It almost feels like women are purposely being trolled.
Transwomen are transwomen. Not women.

It's joke surely. You are promoting women and film and yet you were unable to find an experienced and knowledgeable woman to give the keynote address? Instead you choose a person singularly unqualified in all those criteria - especially the woman part.

Trans women are trans women, I totally support them in representing trans.
However this is another kick in the teeth for women. We are different , not better, but different. We deserve recognition and representation. Really you couldn’t find any women ????
BFI shame on you.

This is an absolute disgrace. Besides the fact that this person is male, not female..they have made one short film. One. Surely there are actual women who would be much better suited for this?

It is absolutely unacceptable that the BFI is essential excluding women from an event meant to centre them & tackle their marginalised status in the film industry, through its choice of male keynote speaker.

What has this person ever done to for the film industry, absolutely nothing.
How can he represent women when he is a man and was raised as a man?

It would be a considerable blow to the legitimacy of this festival to not have a keynote speaker who is a representative of women filmmakers

What a kick in the teeth to the people in this industry who are a.) women and b.) have actually *made a film* (not just presented a heavily produced tv programme with a female producer and female director). Women who have striven their entire careers to gain equality and a place within an industry that heavily favours men. What about Kim Longinotto, Agnes Varda, Havana Marking, Phillipa Lowthorpe, Vanessa Engel, Lynne Ramsay, and on and on, brilliant women being supplanted by an interloper born male who's never made a film. 2018. The year of the erasure of women.

Wondering who the intended audience is for this? Do you really believe that this is a person who women (with a lifetime’s experience as females) really have any interest in listening to?

Shame on the BFI, giving a platform to a misogynist who has had no career in film. Were there no female directors, producers or actors to invite? If the BFI were so desperate to have a trans speaker, a non-misogynist would have been appreciated. Also, shame on the National Lottery for funding this shambles.

Why has a person outside the film industry been chosen against the many natal women who work in the industry. How many women were involved in the process of choosing the keynote speaker?
