I thought long and hard about signing this petition. I waited until I knew why I was signing, and what I was saying by signing. I also thought about what not signing may signify. I wrestled with my own needs, desires, and hopes. In the end, I must sign.

As a member of the graduating class of 1993, I am appalled that my alma mater would present an award to someone who has made such exclusionary statements which are contrary to everything I learned and experienced at PTS. Please do not allow this to happen!

I do not believe in excluding women from pastoral roles. It's one major reason why I no longer am a Southern Baptist. . . .

I am an elderly PCUSA elder who vividly recalls the struggle to ordain women in my evangelical congregation. To honor Mr. Keller is deeply disheartening.

Listen to him, yes. Honoring him is an entirely different beast. And it is a slap in the face to women and to the lgbtq community. What is wrong with northeastern institutions that cannot seem to grasp this point? Yale has been terrified that it might erase history if they stop honoring the memory of Calhoun by changing the name of a building. This is the same argument of the Klan members standing at the SC statehouse and protesting the removal of the Confederate flag. Where did you stand on that issue? Again, listening to someone is not the same as honoring them, and if your honoring someone serves to dishonor targeted groups, I suggest you be much more careful in your choices.

MDiv 1995. As an MDiv student the sexism and homophobia on campus were very subtle but real, and they are why I have not had as much pride in my alma mater as the excellent academic training I received would otherwise warrant. In recent years it seemed to have improved and I have had a much better feeling towards PTS. Have I been mistaken?
