Open letter to ChildLine: Stop normalising the use of pornography to children

WTF Childline? I can see what you are trying to do here but this is far too jokey and light-hearted. The guy comes across as not having enough respect for women with comments such as, 'porn is fun' - yeah, especially all the stuff that shows women being treated violently which is a HUGE amount of it - 'all that flesh' and 'there is a wall of vaginas behind me now' - no, they are vulvas and you can't even get basic biology right. Do you really think children are going to watch the serious bit tagged on the end? This is a complicated issue and this video certainly does not tackle that. For example, how can you definitely know that the sex you are watching free online is consensual? There must be better ways to discuss positive relationships, sex and appropriate behaviour. Children do need to learn about boundaries and it is all right to tell them that something is not OK. Get rid of this smug, laddish fool - isn't that the behaviour we want to discourage among boys? - and find someone with more empathy and understanding. Maybe a woman who can teach boys respect and explain to girls they don't need to behave like porn stars to be good at sex.

Children especially boys should be taught how to respect women. Those sites are pernicious and evil. They serve only to corrupt young minds treating women as objects to be used and abused.

Porn isn’t normal or natural. It is an element of child sexual abuse, the objectification of women and the commodification of people. It feeds a cycle of serious, organised crime and human trafficking. At its least worst it is a form of modern slavery. Don’t allow all of this to be normalised. Don’t allow this grooming of children!

I have been aware of this disgusting video before. It's awful and should not be shown to children.

Children should not be encouraged to watch porn. This shouldn't even have to be said.

The video is alarming! What are Childline thinking? This is not safeguarding! Children should not be encouraged to watch porn, but be taught that it is illegal for children to watch and is extremely damaging. This is not the first time Childline have let themselves down. When are they going to put children's safeguarding at the centre of their agenda?

This is yet another child protection fail by NSPCC. Childline, what do you think you are doing? You are not fit for purpose.

I have watched your video about pornography. I think it actually promotes watching pornography of all sorts to children . It is harmful. It is quite clear that pornography in general is destroying the minds of very young people in regard to sex and Mysore you: look at Everyone’s Invited. Look at the levels of body dismorphia in young girls. Look at the numbers of young people who are sex addicts. The messages of caution in the video are hidden below the overwhelming that porn is fun. And how dare you show a ‘wallpaper’ of vaginas with the wording ‘ pussibilities’ in front of it? A video like this is a form of societal grooming, especially as it is linked to a trusted agency. It is in my view child abuse.

That video is a disgrace to a charity that purports to safeguard children.

This video does not treat the dangers of porn with the seriousness it deserves. Instead it promotes it. What sort of adults promote it to kids?

Shocking abuse by a well know supposed child advocate and support network! You should be thoroughly ashamed putting out this damaging stuff. This is a form of child abuse undercover a banner of supposed child support! Disgusted by many things you have done of late and I stopped supporting your crap a long time ago....but this...? There are no words
