Open letter to ChildLine: Stop normalising the use of pornography to children

From the title downwards, this is deeply inappropriate.

I do not want any children to see this porn. Not one child.

Children should be left to be children, they do not all mature at the same age and should be left to discover things at their own pace. Porn is not harmless fun, porn is harmful for the boys who watch it and any future relationships they go on to. Girls feel pressured to look and perform like the women they see in porn.

I work in children's safeguarding and I am shocked and appalled Childline has done this. The normalization of porn is absolutely linked to the rise in sexual harassment women and girls face daily. This pernicious film must be removed.

We know that porn is fuelling the problem of rape culture in schools, no organisation concerned with the welfare of young people should be encouraging children to watch porn. This is highly irresponsible.

What an utter disgrace of an organisation the NSPCC is.

Early access to pornography is damaging and corrupting. It leads to people (primarily women and girls) being regarded as objects of sexual gratification and not as human beings with feelings and emotions.

Any initiatives to tackle sexism and soaring rates of sexual assault in schools are rendered meaningless by messages like this. An investigation into who allowed this to happen is well overdue.

It is essential that we get to grips with the way in which children are accessing pornography. The impact it is having on a generation of kids, especially girls, is a scandal and will be catastrophic if we fail to deal with it effectively.

As someone who was sexually assaulted as a child, by another child, we cannot allow the normalisation of porn to children to continue.

Pornography use is leading to young men expecting, and girls being coerced into, sex acts they don't want to perform. It's not love to choke a girl and ejaculate on her face.

Children should be protected against porn. Pornhub recently were exposed by Mastercard as profiting from child rape & refused to remove such contact normalises. Porn normalises male violence against women, is racist, fetishises Asian women, black women, lesbians & profits from revenge porn & destroys many peoples lives. The number one pornstar of all time is multiple rapist Ron Jeremey, what does this say about the industry.

Please just don't normalise pornography. It is deeply damaging to relationships. It is not empowering either for the viewers or for the actors.
