Open Letter to the AAP

In solidarity with parents, sex-role non-compliant youth, and the wise and courageous health care professionals speaking up on behalf of evidence-based care.

We need to stop using our children, teens and young adults as guinea pigs.

Your recently released policy statement on the care of transgender youth is abominable! You should be ashamed of yourselves. Take care of our youth. Don't follow this social contagion.

Children need protecting from evil men.

My daughter has two serious, professionally diagnosed mental health conditions. A few years ago, as she was going through a tough time in school, she got the idea that not being girly meant she could not be a girl. Hours with "my journey on T" stories on youtube (by people not much older than her) convinced her even further that girls like her were really boys. Not only have we not been able to find mental health care for her that does not center gender (as we are in one of those "conversion therapy law" states that blends gender identity with sexual orientation) -- we now also face the real threat that our well-meaning pediatrician will need to consider whether our daughter should be removed from our care. Not based on scientific evidence that medical transition of minors is a safe and effective and necessary course of action, but because the AAP has been hijacked by ideologues. Please take a hard look at what you will be facilitating by following these guidelines. If you think giving minors "blockers" on demand and scheduling double mastectomies for 14 year olds is a good "treatment" for nonconformity, better own it. Better be willing to own it when some of these people come back to you a decade on and say "what the hell were you THINKING" - with their lawyers in tow.

Parents with children who are claiming to be transgendered, when we know they are not, should file a class action lawsuit against both APAs for withholding mental health treatment from their children.

The gender affirmative approach to treating children is going to create a generation of children sterilised and damaged by adults affirming the latest societal trends. Irresponsible, unprofessional and unethical. A child abuse scandal in the making

Retract it in full. It's the junkiest of junk science. How embarrassing for your organization.

The AAP should reconsider this position statement and fully examine the flawed studies on which it is based. Affirmative therapy is predicated on the assumption of, statistically, the least likely outcome. It is an abdication of the duty to explore all potentially causative underlying factors, denying a child proper duty of care. At Transgender Trend we see the devastation this unthinking approach is causing to so many families who are desperate for proper professional support.

Please reconsider this policy and help teens and young adults with the emotional and developmental problems which may be driving their gender dysphoria. My 17 year old son is Asperger's, immature and has lots of OCD problems. I believe he is hanging on to the transgender narrative as a (unhealthy) coping technique. I think health care professionals need to take this into consideration

How dare a group of scientists bow to the pressure from trans activists over the science that supports watchful waiting. You are 100% complicit in the harm being done to mostly children who would otherwise grow up to desist and become lesbian or gay. What you are doing is eugenics dressed up as progressive. You are scientists! You’re supposed to see through this, but you’re too cowed even to do the research.

I’m not against this treatment being an available option but I strongly believe that therapy and other mental and physical issues be explored and discussed openly, without judgment, without having a one size fits all treatment plan.

This is becoming an epidemic - We need to protect our children at least until they are adults

Please reconsider your policy statement on the care of transgender youth

Bring back solid, credible science. Do the research BEFORE you use our children as guinea pigs. Remove politics and commerce from these decisions! Save our children!

All the factors should be more seriously considered before prescribing or recommending anything that alters the minds of children.
