Open Letter to the AAP

Remember the oath you took to 'first, do no harm'. It is unethical to allow gender-confused children and adolescents to transition medically. The frontal cortex (decision-making) is not fully developed before the age of at least 25 years old. You cannot let children make decisions about their future (sterility, medical problems etc) before their brains are mature, especially when most of these children also have underlying mental health issues that need to be explored first as part of helping them address their gender dysphoria.

I believe you mean well but you have a responsibility not to allow politics to interfere with the long term welfare of our children.

DO NO HARM!!! Your responsibility is to the patients, not the political groups or to the pharmaceutical companies. Retract your statement and reconsider these damaging treatments that not only fail to accomplish a transition to another sex, but also leave these individuals sterilized and with partially functioning genitals (and that's if they're lucky!) Please do not continue to encourage young and confused teens to transition from whole healthy beautiful males/females to poor imitations of the other sex. Help them learn to accept and love themselves as they are. This is insanity.

I am signing this petition as a Canadian. Statements from an important professional body such as the AAP impacts far beyond the American border.

Please, for the sake of our children, have the courage to stand up for their well being!

I urge the AAP to consider their vow to "do no harm" and abolish the currently recommended treatment for the care of transgender youth. Each of you please consider how you would react if your heretofore compeletely normal teenage son or daughter came home declaring they were the opposite sex, and intended to pursue hormonal and surgical transition? And please consider exactly what this is: mastectomies, hysterectomirs, phalloplasties, severe genital mutilation and a lifetime of medical care. It is very difficult to understand how the AAP could endorse a kind of self-destruction as 'treatment'. Gender dysphoria is not an identity--it is a mental health condition. We beg you to stand up for your patients and families and affirm care that first and foremost compassionately treats all mental health conditions, and enables a young person to integrate mind and body in a healthy way.

Please put an end to medicaid funded transition surgeries of our young Americans.

There is a contagion among the youth. Our children deserve therapy well before any affirmation. ROGD is real.

Let them grow up and experiment before making life altering decisions.

Surgical and hormonal interventions should NOT be the first avenue taken in cases of gender Dysphoria. First do no harm. There us no such thing as being born into the wrong body.

I cannot imagine the harm being done to children and young adults in this generation who cannot get the help they need in their gender confusion. Confusion promoted by activists, media and even educationists. No help other than further affirming and promoting their confusion by drastically going against nature to treat an often mental, emotional problem or even a or chemical imbalance by trying to change their biology. A biology that they were born with in every cell and cannot be truly changed. It is currently like a disease being promoted by academics, medics and others who should know better.

Given the severity of irreversible treatments for gender non-conforming children, a ‘wait and see’ approach is clearly the wisest. Please reconsider.

Please slow this down and give the data time to catch up.

Transgender ideology and politics must not be allowed to twist and warp healthcare for children.

Please help the child to realise and recognize and come to terms with beautiful life without interfering into healthy body.

Over a century of live human experimentation and the only good evidence shows that kids outgrow this when treated with compassion. Where is the compassion for my child? You've censored it for political gain.

Sterilization and mutilation for kids because they don't comport to 1950s sex stereotypes? In the face of obvious social contagion? You have put politics before care. Sex-atypical people can receive compassionate care that does not endanger their future health. Stop caving to political pressure and do your jobs.

We should not be giving children drugs for off label use that have not been approved and which we have no idea of the long term effects. Nothing permanent would be done to healthy children. They should make any such decisions as adults only. Anything else in unethical.

Children need time to find out who they are and shouldn't be rushed through hormone treatment and surgeries that will shorten their lives and not change their sex
