This is absolutely my experience as well. Laura and Olga are heroines and visionaries for museum directors like me. I had the pleasure of speaking with Laura at Open Engagement on a panel speaking about socially engaged museums. I loved working with Olga on the Guerrilla Girls Twin Cities project. It’s hard to be political and a museum director. Does anyone else see a pattern here? Strong, female museum Directors? #slowcurating #artactivist #permeablemuseums

Art is and always has been a commentary on the human condition. Museums need to embrace a supporting as well as educational civic role.

This is not a normal time, and normal rules may not apply to how we respond. As yourself what you would want a museum director to do in 1930s Germany or Spain.....

We need a new approach to civic engagement from art institutions, and Laura was modeling this well. This is a great loss.

I believe historically museums have been remote cultural outposts tending to be removed from both the lives and the living of Artists and the public that generally supports them. Time for Change.

Laura Raicovich has been an exemplary leader and voice for her constituents and for those who believe in social justice issues that are facing us today. We support her resolve to continue to stand up for these important issues.
