I'd like to see the addition of LGBTQ individuals in this petition.
However I'm impressed by the wording and reality of this petition. WCU must allow the Trump campaign but should address their stance on hate and hate speech. Campus climate is important and as an alum I am disappointed we have to ask the administration to speak up.

WCU has a moral obligation to take a stand against any one person, group, or institution that espouses hate, segregation, disparate treatment, marginalization, and the like. Your opening the campus to a hatemonger is reprehensible. You are not listening to students, employees, faculty, and the community. What happened to WCU's commitment to civility, diversity, procedural and distributive justice?

As a social work graduate of West Chester University, I am appalled that an institution of higher education would allow someone, who represents the antithesis of education, come and speak on campus. How could you be teaching ethical principles and then invite someone who defies ethics based on however they're feeling at the moment? His statements are not just opinions, often times they're fallacies. I'm simply stunned by this consideration, and I hope that my words and those of fellow WCU students, graduates, and staff will convince you to reconsider welcoming Donald Trump onto campus.

The Trump rally was held in Pittsburgh last week and the taxpayers foot the bill for the security, as it was held in public places. No university hosted. Listen to your students!

Oppressive, hate speech must not be confused with "free speech." Academic leadership means taking an ethical stand against intolerance of differences.

Trump is not for political discussion and unifying rhetoric. The very fabric of WCU's campus could potentially be rent assunder through his hate speeches. That rending could possibly be irreparable and the responsibility of that would fall solely on the president of the university's shoulders. Gaining publicity for West Chester can be done in more unifying, encouraging, and constructive ways than having a bigot, who everyone is currently watching, spread his hate and dissention at an institution that is already fraying under the weight of sexual assaults and intolerance toward the LGBTQA community.

Please protect the students and value the safety of the community. Given the history of Trump's incitement to violence, the free exchange of ideas is overshadowed by this hostile and hateful climate you have chosen to bring to the campus.
