Please open the schools. Our kids need the in person interaction. If we, as parents, made the decision for in person for our kids then that should be honored. It was given as a choice and should be kept as a choice. Not every parent has the option to stay home and do virtual learning. Virtual learning is not for every child. What about the kids with special needs, who need the face to face learning environment.

As a parent and a nurse I feel strongly we need to get back to school in person. Providing the option for virtual learning is great. But making that the only option is not acceptable. There are countless single parent homes, homes where both parents are essential workers, homes where kids don't have support systems. Not opening schools eliminates the opportunity for thousands of kids who need academic and behavioral help to stay on track. Thousands of kids are unable to get the support they need and will end up further behind than they already are now. We cannot continue to live in fear. These kids deserve stability, consistency, normalcy. Open the schools, allow parents to make the decision of virtual or not.

Our children and our teachers deserve better options than this. I plead that we follow the American Pediatric recommendation to send kids back to school. I also wish as a district we would stop pandering to the media and fear of the minority among us who stir up controversy.
