Curriculum needs to be based on evidence of what students need to be healthy and to thrive. Keep narrow ideology and prejudice out of the process.

I am outraged by the choice of our current government to try and regress education in this province back 20 years to a time when I hadn't heard of Residential schools or same sex relationships or when social media didn't exist and the boys in our school would openly rate the girls 1-10 as they walked down the halls. Times have changed and we need to give students the tools to be successful in today's society in all aspects of their lives and that includes a well rounded knowledge based education.

Because the “Ethical Standards for the Teaching Profession” as outlined by the Ontario College of Teachers (https://www.oct.ca/-/media/PDF/Standards%20Poster/standards_flyer_e.pdf) says it’s our responsibility.

We will continue to do our professional duty and instruct our students about their human rights, their safety, their freedoms, their bodies etc. It is a pedagogically unsound to ask us to do anything else.
I support teachers taking this principled stand.
