In the past, and in most of the other provinces today, members of the Canadian forces that had completed their drivers training (now a 2.5 month full time course) and held valid 404's (CF driver permit) would be able to transfer their 404's to a provincial license. Since the introduction of the graduated licensing system this is no longer the case in Ontario. As a retired member of the CF, and holder of 404's, I see this as completely absurd. Anyone who has taken the course knows that it combines all of the tests one would do to obtain a G license, two road tests and the Ontario Suplementary written test (the cf uses the full 26 page test as opposed to the 4 page g1 test), as well as an additional night drive, 1000km per vehicle trained on, and a blackout (no lights on) drive on trails. The average person only has to do the writen test and two drive tests to obtain their license. You are also required to pass the defensive drivers course, the air brakes course and test, a safe backing course and maintain a minimum of 1000km in each vehicle per year. the course is all the tests plus driving school and then some with additional military style driving that is taught as well in civilian terms. So, that being said, is it not reasonable that the CF 404's should, in the very least, be equivalent to a G2 or G and therefore exempt the military personnel holding valid 404's from doing it all over again to get their G or G2? There are some personnel that have every class of civilian license (G, AZ, DZ,Chauffeur, and Coach bus) on their 404's and still had to go and do them again to get them on their civilian license. This needs to stop. Every year the military's budget gets cut, veteran's support is lessened, pensions for soldier are lowered or not honoured, and some are left to fend for themselves after serious injuries or being diagnosed with PTSD. So is it really that unreasonable for use to want to at least have our training and testing to be recognized and honoured outside of the Forces? I don't think it is. So I am asking for your signatures and support so we can get the government to finally make some positive changes for the men and women that defend this country and human rights world wide.
