As a family physician who sees a lot of geriatrics and palliative care (hospital, hospice & in home), these cuts are undemocratic and will do nothing to help our patients. As physicians leave, they will only burden the system further and ask against patient interests. Please return to negotiation Premier Wynne, Minister Hoskins!

The recent stand of the liberal government on health care has left me with little faith on their ability to make decisions that improve the quality of life and access of health care to Ontarians.

Anyone who has followed the OMA since it did a backroom deal to become our only representative association with the Rand formula (despite the fact we are not a union and are not in the same situation as any "Randable" union), over 20 years ago, will know the OMA has sold many of it's members up the river many, many, times. For the money you have paid them, you have received:
1. Continuous pay cuts overall (when time are tough, pay freezes or reductions; when time are amazing, raises at COLA )
2. The (never talked about 'cause we are all too polite, and ) ongoing ridiculous discrepancy in pay between many groups who should clearly be similar (can someone explain why certain specialties gets 2-3 times the pay as most of the other subspecialties? We all know who they are...). This is completely a byproduct of OMA politics.
3. Complete suppression of any dissenting voices. (think not?- ask your self when you have EVER seen a letter critical of the OMA printed in the OMA mag? Ever. You know, the one that is supposed to be 'your' voice? The OMA site chat rooms that used to be boiling over with enthusiastic docs paying attention to the OMA?...shut down , of course...)
4. A magazine we pay for, which has only one useful purpose I can see: selling you OMA insurance...(if you just didn't get enough of 50% of it being filled with insurance "articles", don't worry, next month will have some more for you, guaranteed...)
5. Shiny new offices in Yorkville 'cause, and this was a reason the OMA actually gave, they need to be closer to Queen's Park to be effective. (Apparently being 2 subway stops is worth a lot more than being 4 away... how could Yorkville digs not all but guarantee better deals?)
6. Some of the worst (actually embarrassing) advertising ever. Paid for by us.
7. an organization that has NEVER held the government close to a reasonable timeline on any negotiations.
8. a promise that even though we got fleeced (yet again) on the last negotiated schedule, d

The OMA must roll up it's sleeves and represent it's members with a coordinated media barrage and possibly a legal challenge. The time to act is now.

The time for action is now. We can not afford to continue to sit and watch this happen. We need clear legal action from the OMA, not more buttons and handouts.

The government is telling us we work to much, and health care costs are too high. They cut our OR time, our hospital budgets, the services we can provide. So they want us to do less? Who is going to suffer? Oh, yeah, the patients.

There is only one way left and that is strike action.
When the public feels the pain of strike action , then only will the politicians pay attention.
Teachers were not scared of hurting our children's education when they threatened strike action. Why are we so scared to strike, so some people will get hurt, but unfortunately that is the only way to get good care in the long run. Limiting visits to one issue doesn't hurt anyone it just pisses off patients and they won't take any action.. We have to strike!!!

Two years ago, Alberta Docs had similar situation. They did negotiate pay raise vs doing few hours per day ( or a short strike) I can't remember. Any way they got pay raise rather than pay cut. I think OMA should deliver a strong message that their original pay was 2008 agreement and in 2015 we got cut instead of pay raise while the inflation went up by 6%
