We do not need more developers buying and selling real estate to make a hefty profit for themselves. We need community organizations like this that aim the uplift their citizens and better the community at large through the good work that they do.

As a city, we need to protect green community spaces as valuable city assets. Baltimore has no shortage of land available for development. If the city allows developers to swoop in and stake claim on land that communities have invested in and contributed volunteer hours into re-purposing, we devalue the community as a whole. The city sends a clear message that residents should just not invest in their own communities. It is a terrible community building message and pro-greed statement. Don’t put profits before people.

I am a former Hopkins graduate student who lived in the Charles Village area. I would go to the Waverley Famers Market every Saturday and met many of the student volunteers and other members of Boone Street farm. Their warmth and enthusiasm always brightened my day. The farm is a wonderful community asset and it would be sad to see this space being taken away. I would urge you to support the Boone initiative and relocate the development efforts elsewhere!
