This is an online petition to request that the term Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and the description of what this practice involves is removed from the content of lesson being taught to Year 3 - 6 during the course of the week commencing 9th June. If this request cannot be met then it is requested that the lessons are postponed and further parent consultations held.

Exposing children to this is unnecessary, educate the adults via GP services would be more appropriate….

Not necessary for KS2 children, PANTS is more appropriate. Poor communication and explanation from the school.

I disagree with holding FGM workshops for primary school pupils. At such a young age, the potential for unnecessary psychological distress outweighs any educational value.

I absolutely opposed my kids to be exposed to the Acronym EGM and its meaning. safeguarding education have a place in primary schools and needs to be taught by all means. There is no reason to add a traumatic understanding of what EGM means. It has been traumatic for me, when I learned what EGM means and what EGM practice is in certain cultures I only learn about it when in my mid 30’s! I still have nightmares about it, and significantly affected my mental health. Parents should know all about it but not innocent kids as you g as 7 years old that will be unable to understand the meaning of EGM.

Children do not need to know this level of detail. No research or evidence has been given to show proof that sharing the meaning of FGM to children will safeguard them. PANTS is enough and it’s already been taught

I do not want my daughter to attend - you have no right or consent to teach this. You should make this an opt in optional session if you want to run and let families have their choice. The course/workshop is not part of our Catholic Church teachings and not part of our culture or curriculum. It should be cancelled.

Children are too young to be told about this topic.

I am writing to respectfully share my concern regarding the inclusion of the topic of FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) in the school curriculum for children of such a young age.
