I was a Native American student at Union. I tutored other Native students, and helped start the Native American newsletter, Smoke Signals. I was proud of the Redskin name, and still am. My family was quoted over 20 years ago in the Tulsa World when this was being discussed, and we fee the same today. Keep the Redskin name!

Look at the letters and emails that you have been received for changing the name and I bet you'll find that some of these people didn't even go to UNION! No reason to change the name, mascot, or anything about UNION. This school system has been around since before my family bought their home in the district and has functioned just fine as it is. Don't give in to the "race discrimination" card played on the district.

If the Native Americans around here are not speaking as one against this change, then leave things alone. Our country has way more important work to do than to worry about changing the name of a mascot.
