The veterans lounge at WMU is lacking space and resources to support our 800 student veterans. We are looking to move and combine services to provide a more cohesive environment to the learning atmosphere. The new space will bring together the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs, VetSuccess Coordinator, Military Advocate, Recruitment Coordinator, Public Relations Office, and Veterans Affairs Coordinator, as well as provide a meeting space for the Student Veterans of America (SVA), SVA Mentoring Program, and access to computers and a place for camaraderie and relaxation for our veterans.

The current space provided is too small such that there isn’t enough table space for the current amount of frequenting veterans to be able to do their school work. And there is no room for additional tables. The space is limited to about 10-15 people comfortably, yet we have more than that for SVA meetings. A larger space is a must.
I would like to see this come to fruition!

As a WW11 Infantry combat veteran who was a student from 1946 to 1950 and who held several leadership positions as a volunteer for Western I am delighted to learn of the renewed interest in Military Affairs and service. My oldest soon Jim, R. is a Vietnam Veterand and Western Grad. My brother Col. Dorman L. Duncan, Jr. Graduated in Westerns first ROTC Class as the second ranking cadet and became a regular army officer. His wife was also a WMU Graduate as was my late wife Colleen Patricia Cloney Duncan.
