Background:

In late 2013 and early 2014 Cindy and Bob Bingham, Curtis Williams, Todd Horn, and Herman Koester completed a "Lighting Audit" for the Stookey Township part of Ogles Subdivision. Currently in the Stookey part of Ogles (in most locations) the street lights are 500 feet apart and in the Belleville part of Ogles they are 200 to 250 feet apart. If you drive through the subdivision you can certainly tell when you are in the city or township part of Ogles.

In a spring 2014 Township meeting Supervisor David Bone made a motion to budget $5,000 for street lighting in Ogles during FY 2014. Approximately $4,000 was spent on: 1) one new light and pole between 317 and 313 Oliver Lee Dr.; 2) new light and bracket on an existing pole on Moreland Dr (between Blue Ridge Dr. and Southgate Dr.; 3) new light and bracket on an existing pole on Werner Rd. just north of the railroad bridge; 4) several large wattage bulbs in existing light fixtures.

In a spring 2015 Township meeting Trustee Ryan Stookey made a motion to budget $2,000 for street lighting on Ogles during FY 2015. Since there was about $1,000 left from the previous year one new light and pole was installed between 13 and 17 Briarwood Dr.

In 2016 we requested a new street light (either between 7108 and 7012 Carr Dr or between 7201 and 7119 Carr Dr), however Trustee Curtis Williams offered to have Ameren install a light only on an existing pole between 7010 Carr Dr. and 801 Werner Rd. We rejected that location and there were no new street lights added in Stookey in 2016.

Where we are today:

We are in need of more street lights to lighten up the Stookey Township part of Ogles. Currently there's about $10,000 in the budget that could be available for Street Lights and we are asking Stookey Township to add two new street lights on poles and one new street light on an existing pole to the agenda for January 2, 2017.

By signing this petition I am supporting the additional to additional street lighting in the Stookey Township portion of Ogles.

Thank You!

I live in the corner of Southern Drive and many nights it's scary coming home it's extremely dark at night and many times people come around the corner without being seen. I know most recent break-in have been during the day, but this is a frightening situation.

We definitely need more lights. We even bought extra lights for around our house but it isn't enough. We need the protection to keep crime down.

As a resident of Ogles in Stookey township I feel more lights are needed. It is very dark on some streets and there is quite a bit of foot traffic through the neighborhood. It is a basic saftey issue to be able to see our surroundings.

Please put a new light on the 900 block of Southgate Dr. It is so dark in this area.

Street lights help protect our neighborhoods and make the residence feel safer. If the money is there I see no reason for the township to shoot down the requests.

Very dark in middle of 900 block of Southgate Drive. Very much a security issue.
