The school board officially recognized Chinese New Year as a holiday for students. This victory belongs to everyone who refused to accept the status quo. Keep watching your local district calendars to ensure they follow through on this commitment.

Hello all-- This is our creed, our belief, our reason for starting this group. Hopefully the following resolution will be passed by Board of Educations across the nation: WHEREAS America is the land that believes in equality for all especially in the majority (utilitarianism); and WHEREAS Chinese New Year is the main holiday for more than one quarter of the world\'s population; and WHEREAS Several other cultural groups receive days off for holidays that Asians do not celebrate; and WHEREAS This generation of Asian-American is more active than the previous generation. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that we make Chinese New Year an official holiday, allowing students to take a day off to celebrate the holiday. If your school board or county does not allow you to legally take a day off. Skip. Boycott the system. Join the ranks of Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, and Malcom X and FIGHT FOR YOUR EQUALITY. This is AMERICA. The land of liberty, justice, and equality.

Totally agree. Cant believe we are still in school on the biggest day of the year for us. Need a day off to be with family.

My kids have been missing school for years for this and I always get a letter home. It is ridiculous that we cant just celebrate our culture.

so many other holidays are marked on the calendar but this one is always ignored. equality means celebrating everyone not just some people.

Finally someone said it! Its a huge holiday for our family and we always have to struggle with school attendance. About time we get some respect.

Why is this still an issue in 2016?? Kids should be able to see their grandparents without worrying about missing a test.
