Former Hartt student here and would like to add that Hartt Students don't even get the chance to apply for academic scholarships that can alleviate a lot of the financial burden that comes with attending uhart (the primary reason I had to leave)! Living off campus is crucial to retaining the students who are struggling to afford this school!

As a graduate of the Hartt Music Theatre Class of 2015 I find this change outrageous. It is extremely detrimental to the students at The Hartt School financially, emotionally, and physically. Please rethink your decision.

As a Hartt MT alum, it is so disappointing that UHa seems to have done zero research into its students needs. I moved off campus my sophomore year and it was the best thing for me financially, mentally, emotionally, and physically. I would have had a completely different (probably bad) experience if I had been forced to stay on campus. I was considering leaving after my freshman year and would have considered it even more seriously if I didn't think I would have freedom to live off campus. Please take this seriously.

I’m a potential student and am about to submit my application. I will heavily consider not attending uhart at all if I don’t have an option to live at home. Everyone needs a college that can work into their life, not be a jail.

As a Hartt School alum, I’m so disappointed in the University of Hartford for making this rule with what seems like zero consideration for what’s best for the students. This rule hurts both the students and guardian(s) supporting these students. I hope they do the right thing and remove Hartt students from this last minute, ridiculous requirement.

It’s unacceptable to expect Hartt students to live on campus an extra year when the shuttle is so unreliable. It saddens me that the University is trying to enforce this change for their financial gain. I’m a 2015 music theatre graduate and lived off campus sophomore year on. Living off campus was one of the best decisions I made for my studies.

Living on campus freshmen year as a theatre major was difficult enough for me with my rigorous schedule as well as financially. I can’t imagine having to do it as a sophomore.

As a graduate of the 2018 BFA actor training class, I am appalled at the university's insistence that students remain on campus for two years of housing, as opposed to their prior one-year policy. Not only will this place an undue financial strain on the current freshman class, as well as all future students, it's a violation of trust placed in the university by the students of 2022 and their families. Those who have already invested in a four year education with The Hartt School with a clear understanding of the housing policies and their cost will now be forced to reconsider if their education is financially feasible after having already committed to a year of tuition at the institution. While slight tuition increases are to be expected, this is a clear abuse of financial power over students who are eager to learn and grow at The University of Hartford.
