The housing website displayed data all the way through December with data saying 1050 student would be approved to live off campus. These numbers were factored into my friends and my decision to live off campus. However, without notice that value was changed to 500 sometime and January. The statistics of how many students would be approved was not clear or displayed in a timely fashion.

As a recent graduate (Class of 2013), it is a shame to hear of the hardships faced by students who are trying to take another step towards maturity and self-sufficient living. I hope this policy is reviewed and I would be happy to put my support behind this cause moving forward.

I don't feel particularly comfortable or safe living in on campus housing; Honestly I see no benefit to here. I pay this school enough money that I should be allowed to live on campus and practice being an adult during this transitional phase of our lives.

Luckily, I'll be able to live off campus this year. But it's absolutely absurd that some of my fellow soon-to-be seniors might not. Our college experience unfolds over a short time -- just four quick years -- and it is a shame that the University seems to be so eager to dictate how and where we live. We are all excited that this university has committed to improving its on-campus housing options, but a crucial part of our liberal arts education is choice -- the choice to grow in the ways that fit each of us, as individuals, the choice to live in the environment that fits each of our individual needs. In forcing seniors to live on-campus -- as far as I'm aware, an unprecedented step for a University already overly stringent in its housing application process -- Vanderbilt is essentially reneging on a string of promises made to Undergraduates, not least of which the expectation that the Administration will be a steward, and not a hindrance, in our growth and transition to adulthood.

Concerned parent that vanderbikt is using unfair practices in only allowing a set amount of seniors to live off campus leaving 250 students to be forced to live on campus due to vanderbilts limited dorm on campus space. Offer the same right to all seniors who have earned the right to make their own decisions to live where they ALL desire!!!! Vanderbilt's students are tops in the nation therefore they deserve to have the choice to live in private residences which offer less expensive tents, parking availability free of charge or lower fees than their own university! This is a total injustice to all seniors and this issue should be Re evaluated immediately and the existing policy leaving 250 students or more to go into another lottery for sub par accommodations. I hope all parents of existing students at all levels, incoming and prospective students and parents to get involved now to help overturn this current decision!!!!

Off-campus living as a senior was an essential step that taught me about managing a real-life living situation. Vanderbilt shouldn't deprive its upperclassmen of learning those skills.

I got lucky to have the opportunity to go off campus. Luck should not have anything to do with this decision. One point not being adequately made is that off-campus housing is often cheaper than on-campus, particularly when in walking distance. The financial well-being of students should be respected.
