Oakwood City Schools Remote Delivery

This whole online learning has been hectic. I wish the Google Meets were consistent for every subject (i.e. MW at 1PM for science/social studies, T&Th 10:30am) and that parents were also emailed with notifications and not just the students. I agree that teachers should record themselves and have a few videos a week with lessons rather than having the students learn everything on their own. So far, my daughter’s math teacher has done all of these in a consistent basis, but it would be helpful for all parents to have that for every subject. As for specials, they should be optional, but let’s not forget that these are full-time teachers and they have to do lessons just like core subject instructors.

My 2nd grader spent 1.5 hours on Art alone yesterday. The video that was given was poor quality and misleading. It was frustrating on all parts. I am so appreciative of the arts (believe me, I majored in the Arts!) However, there has to be a better way!

Grateful to raise my kids in a district with amazing teachers and administrators that are open to input from families.

Agree that making specials officially optional would be a good step. Also would love to see more live instruction. Additionally, wondering how grades will be administered for the quarter.

I could not agree more. I have contacted school administration on several occasions asking for some empathy and understanding with little response. There had been no accounting for different family dynamics.

I concur concern with “specials” as optional and maybe Weds as mental health day activities. Thank you Oakwood for doing so much, we are amazed at your efforts and offerings. Frankly, I don’t want ant child’s last memories of a parent to be about arguing over schoolwork or hideous IXL. Reality check.

As a full time working mom, I would like to see more daily or weekly instruction from the teachers and assignments young students can do on their own. I am seriously struggling with balancing my daily workload and also teaching my son everything that is being provided from his main class and specials.

I know this is hard on everyone. Educators and parents. We need to work together and be able to share our concerns.

Thank you for organizing this and saying what many of us are thinking. The focus should be on core subjects under these difficult circumstances.

Enrichment Wednesday’s should include specific activities rather than links to sites like “Kahn Academy”.

I would be interested in discussing ways we can support our kiddos mental health. The focus has solely been on academics, but we all know our mental health is in need of support during this time as well. Thank you for considering this topic of discussion.

I deeply appreciate all the hard work our teachers have put into this, and we need to figure out how to make this work for families.

We are in this together. Let's open up a forum that allows for us to express our gratitude for what is going right and provide feedback for those things that are not going well.

Thankfully my daughter’s teacher has done a great job of teaching the math lesson on Google meet… She also stays available during the day to meet on Google Meet and answer questions when the kids have them. She just leaves her computer open and the kids can pop on and off as they need to with questions. Maybe this is something the other teachers can do as well. Would love for the arts to be optional. We do much of that at home as it is and the extra stress on the kids is not ideal.
