I've lived on Oakwood for 10 years. I go and come home to work in the middle of the rush hours and like most places in Toronto it is busy. Even if the bump outs cause us a delay of seconds or minutes the safety that they provide clearly overweigh the benefit that is provided to children, seniors and those who are not able to run or dodge fast cars while crossing the street. Families and children come and go from both the north and south ends for Rawlinson public school. At both the public meetings on this issue at the library the loud and upset people who were against the bump-outs simply appeared to not value the safety vs. the minimal potential delay case. It was if they felt 'ah, we take our chances when we cross the street'. And the lady who complained about the bump outs further south on Oakwood saying now all she saw was concrete our front of her house. What was there before - grass? Flowers? No, it was road! The people who are really upset are the hyper aggressive drivers who race up the side to squeeze or bully their way into the front. The one gent who has lived on Oakwood for decades put it so nicely. Here I paraphrase him: "I'm not in favour of the bumpouts, but I live here for 25 years right at the cross walk and I see children and people nearly being hit. If you put the bump outs and they keep a kid from being hit, then great."

I can't believe that you would be foolish or naive enough to believe the claims of whoever it was that initiated this petition. First of all Bump Outs or peninsulas are NOT required to plant trees at sidewalk level. In fact There are NO TREES Planted on the Bump Outs on Oakwoiod South of St. Clair. They are all concrete pavers. According to someone who lives on Oakwood South of St. Clair where the peninsulas ( Bump Outs ) have been installed they have done nothing but cause Increased, Heavy Traffic Congestion and in summer time she has to keep her windows closed because of the extra pollution. I am asking the City to Consider putting a New Traffic Light at a Strategic Location at one of the streets midway between Rogers Rd. and St. Clair to provide Better Traffic Regulation and have Proposed the City Plant New RED Japanese Maples Both on the sidewalk in Line with the Utility Poles and on the City Portion of the Residential Properties from Earlsdale to St. Clair. This would be a Practical way to Greatly Improve the Look of Oakwood Ave., Provide more positive Traffic Control without Reducing Road Capacity and Fexibility for Now and Into the Future.
I am and We are Against Any Changes to to Oakwood Ave. that would diminish road travel capacity and present or future flexibility.

This initiative needs to be extended as far north on Oakwood as feasible. The street needs major improvement to be pedestrian friendly and project a community feel.

This would go a long way to providing streetscape improvements to a roadway that is currently blank with ambiguous boundaries and no locations to add greenery.
