Oakwood University requires new leadership. Although such a frank statement is off-putting to some, what good are polite words and platitudes when the house is burning down?
I am an Oakwood alum, a parent of enrolled students, and a thoughtful supporter of the OUAA. I have witnessed the build to this current debacle and conclude the need for new leadership at Oakwood University is certain. Even if Alumni Weekend 2019 is somewhat salvaged, a fundamental crisis of leadership remains. Anecdotally for example, some faculty and staff have been wholly unwilling to speak candidly about their perspectives under OU leadership. This, in part, exemplifies a serious drop in morale for our educators. Do we believe OU is providing the best leadership and education when the morale is tanking across campus? Now add a wasteful lawsuit and ask what quality is Oakwood able to provide for our students?
Like the U.S. President finally opened the government, the OU President can finally end this ongoing wasteful lawsuit. We do not need legal walls built between OU and OUAA. There is no crisis, other than manufactured, at the border between OU and OUAA. There are more parallels to draw, but mainly the need for new leadership. Let’s think beyond Alumni Weekend.

As a former student, SDA Christian and faithful contributor to Oakwood University, unless this trivial standoff can be resolved, at least for the purpose of a “joint” Alumni Weekend, then it should be cancelled for 2019. Let the next year be spent resolving this unfortunate situation.

I support this. I've been coming to Alumni Weekend since it's inception which is most of my 60 years of life! I would drive through rain to get to it!!! This year however.......Where we are right now is a hot mess!!! If OU and OUAA are unwilling to truly seek resolution truthfully, prayerfully and in Honor to God, I cannot imagine the consequences that He will exact!! Get it together!! My wife Marsena Cook has already signed and explained various reasons for signing this petition. As an alumnus (OC, class of 1992), this is a very reprehensible way for those who claim to represent Christ, the church and our beloved university to conduct themselves, especially at a time when it is necessary for us to learn to press together. May this issue be resolved soon for the honor of our Master.

I am not an alum, but am a life member of OUAA and proud supporter of OU. Praying this petition effort helps fulfill Isa 61:3 at this sorely needed time: “To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He might be glorified.” Joe Dent

Even though I did not attend Oakwood University, it has blessed my life in the following ways:
My husband is an OU alumnus (Class of '92).
The late Pastor E.T. Mimms, who led me to Christ and baptized me at age 8, was an OU alumnus.
The late Dr. Joseph Warren, my English professor at Andrews University, who was a father figure during my college years, was an OU alumnus.
Our autistic son used his letters to spell "OAKWOOD UNIVERSITY".
Oakwood has been used by the Lord to impact and bless my life in so many ways. This division is terrible! Resolve it in the name of Jesus!!!
