Tennis is an all year round activity and is a great sport for young and old. The benefits to health, all round body fitness and socially are considerable. Oakham Lawn Tennis Club has great facilities but lacks one critically important thing: Floodlights.
This means the club is only functional after 4pm for 6 months of the year and players are moving to other clubs or sports. Being the ONLY 4 court town club in the County/Leicestershire without lights is not just limiting provision but also threatening the future of the club and available tennis in the area.
Do we want to be a town without a tennis club?
Floodlighting is now so technically advanced that the light is focussed almost entirely on the court area only; lights are also of low height. So, floodlit tennis clubs all around the UK co-exist happily with residents in the middle of built up housing areas. Can’t we secure the same for our town?
Please support and sign this petition below so we can collectively press our landlords the Town Council, to sustain and develop tennis as a sport in our town.
The Town Council continues to stall on a meeting despite the growing list of names behind this request. It is exhausting to keep pushing when the path ahead remains blocked, but walking away is not an option for anyone who uses these courts. I am still here and still working to get an actual answer.

Reaching this level of support feels heavy because it proves how many people are tired of losing access to our courts after dark. I am exhausted by the constant uphill battle against the council but seeing this momentum keeps me moving forward.

Get the lights up already. Oakham is falling behind the rest of the county.

It is honestly ridiculous that we have to stop playing so early in the winter. We want to play after work like everyone else.

So frustrating having to travel to other towns just to get a game in. Keep our local club alive for the winter months.

Modern lights are barely noticeable from the street anyway. Stop blocking progress just because of some NIMBYs.

My kids love playing here but we cant get any court time during the week because it gets dark so fast. Lights would fix this instantly.
